Sold as a bunch of three small onions (golf ball sized or larger) with some greens attached.
A spring onion is simply a small bulb onion that if left in the ground, would grow larger and be dried for off-season use. By late July they are about the size of a tennis ball. The wonderful thing about spring onions is that the stem and leaves are still tender enough to utilize as you would green onions (aka scallions) so it is like your buying two ingredients in one product. The tops are so sweet!
