We Grow Lettuce
Our head lettuce varieties vary greatly as the season progresses due to the changes in growing temperature. Most lettuce varieties will grow well in the cool weather of early spring and fall, but as it gets hot we are limited to heat tolerant romaines and salanova hybrids. We encourage you to eat seasonally and roll with the limits that mother nature puts on our lettuce offerings and sometimes even try something new. No matter what the heads look like this week, the flavor will be great because it was harvested within a few hours of making it to your kitchen.
Storage: For maximum storage life, store at high humidity but not resting in water. This can easily be achieved by storing lettuce inside a salad spinner in the fridge or inside a colander nested in a bowl in the fridge. Our lettuce comes to you without the leaves cut off the stems for maximum shelf life. Cut the stem and rinse before eating. Lettuce quickly browns on all cut edges, so less cutting means longer storage.
Lettuce is a very low-calorie green vegetable. 100 grams of fresh greens provide just 15 calories. Nonetheless, they are the storehouse of many phytonutrients that possess health promoting and disease prevention properties.
